Introductory section:
The brass band of Kyoto Tachibana High School is a powerhouse school which got three gold medals at the national conventions so far.
Hitomi Kanamaru-san (18) is a leader in charge of flute in the brass band, where 120 people are enrolled.

Talk with Hitomi:
“It is hard to stop, and bend and stretch with the left foot as its axis. There are times when I think that a normal foot was better, but also I can do same with other people now”

Commentary:
Nowadays she got accustomed to a short skirt uniform, but when she was young she would not like to wear a skirt. However, it came to accept prosthetic leg that “This is my leg” when she was in elementary school lower grades.

Talk with Hitomi:
“When I was a child I was wearing different types of prosthetic legs from the current, which made me stand out more. I did not like being seen by people who passed each other in the city. But I can not change of my leg, so I decided not to care about it”

Commentary:
Hitomi admired Kyoto Tachibana High School longing for Orange devil’s step. However, the intensity of the step and the harshness of practice was more than her imaged.

Talk with Hitomi:
“The first concert in high school first grader was held in May, I started practicing in April. But my legs were burdened with a heavy step and swollen, my leg hurt and I got difficult to put on my prosthetic limbs. Because the body grew and the bones stretched out. So at the summer vacation, I performed an operation to the bone at the tip of the foot in order to shortend it and give room”

Commentary:
She returned to club activities at the end of summer vacation. Hitomi practiced everyday to get back the lag. Also, in order to overcome handicap of the left foot, she devised the step so that it looks like other people by moving the right leg greatly. But she had never thought to quit the band. That dedicated thought was transmitted to other members.

Her fellow bandmember:
“The place she absolutely will not give up is amazing. Everything works hard as well”

Her junior:
“She never makes an excuse for her handicap. Always working hard at all”

Commentary:
The day before yesterday (21, January) the last concert in high school life was held. The jazz masterpiece “Sing Sing Sing” was a song that Hitomi wanted to dance from the time of junior high school. Her high school life, which has been suffering from pain, surgery and intense exercise, is now all over.

Talk with Hitomi:
”It was a very dense three years. Thanks to everyone’s support, I felt happy enough to forget the obstacles”

Conversation in the studio:
Announcer:
“Unfortunately, during the three years, Tachibana could not get the gold medal at the contest. But it was amazing to have participated in the world famous Rose Parade. She walked 9 km in 2 hours at that dancing step.”

Announcer:
“Unlike Japan, a big cheering comes back from the roadside, she said that was so fun and happy”

Female studio member:
“Oh, she looked like a person who was accomplish something big thing.”

Male studio member:
“But is it possible to dance with prosthetic leg?”

Announcer:
“I heard that there are various kinds of artificial legs. For example, if you want to wear high heels it seems better to have ankle moving type. But in the type where the ankle moves, this step can not be stepped on, so Hitomi’s ankle is fixed type. So she can do it”
“But since the movement becomes small when the prosthetic leg as the axis, she raised the right leg higher than other people so it is balanced when I look from afar, and it looks lively.”

Announcer:
“In the “Sing Sing Sing”, they require 244 steps per minute at highest speed. Usually dancing step seems to be about 140 to 160/min. Just amazing”

Announcer:
“She told me that when she go to college, she will quit the brass band. She said she wants to become a childcare professional”

Male studio member:
“I think here is nothing she can not do.”

Announcer:
“To her strong mental power and courage, we do nowhere near. Oh yes. There is nothing she can not do”
