All-Izumo Honor Green Band in Rose Parade 2012-13

All-Izumo Honor Green Band was invited to attend the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, California on January 1, 2013. The band was composed of 110 members (about quarter of whom were alumni) and four Band Directors from four different high schools from Shimane Prefecture:
– Izumo High School (島根県立出雲高等学校, website, Wikipedia),
– Izumo Hokuryō Junior&Senior High School (出雲北陵中学校・高等学校, website, Wikipedia),
– Izumo Shōgyō High School (出雲商業高等学校, website, Wikipedia),
– Taisha High School (島根県立大社高等学校, website, Wikipedia).
This was their first Rose Parade performance (see more of their second visit in 2018-19 here) and during their trip to US they appeared in several other events as well as it is usual for any GBA-sponsored Green Band.

This blog follows one of the participating bands (Izumo Shōgyō High School (=Izumo Business High School, Izusho) Wind Orchestra) in more detail here.

Benefit Concert on January 2, 2013 (video by Music213). The guest conductor segment (22:36-27:25) brought the house down! At 45:12 the band members left the stage to say farewell to their host families which is always a touching moment. And it all was finished (of course) at 1:05:14 by “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars.

  1. Thank you for setting up this corner.
In Japan, Izumo Business High School (IB) is sometimes criticized as imitating KT.
However, please understand the following about IB.
    1) Students of IB had longing for KT and wanted to play like KT. The two schools are on good terms.
    2) The two schools are under the guidance of a common coach (Yokoyama coach).
    3) The fact that KT’s style originally started with the idea of Yokoyama coach.
The student is said to be an inventor, but it was originally a coach idea.
These will inevitably have a similar style.

I’m playing really fun from around 4:00.
IB students were sincerely pleased that they joined the Sakura Parade together with KT.
2013 · Rose parade · In the performance of ALL Izumo, they were playing the same songs.
Today, many fans of KT are supporting IB.
    Sorry for bad english
PS) Official video of GBA is also good.

By the way, KT ‘s official video (GBA) has not been posted yet.
