(a little bit longer video of the same is here)

The band has officially announced (click here or here for the announcement, in Japanese) that they are applying for the 136th Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2025 in Pasadena, California (video by MICHINOKUGORO). This will be the third Rose Parade expedition for the band, previous ones took place in 2012 (click here for details) and 2018 (click here for details).

In the video above Amy Wainscott, the President and Chairman of the Board for the 2023 Pasadena Tournament of Roses visits the school on September 12, 2022 to the familiar tunes of “Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)” and “Hymne à l’amour” (=known in Japan as “Ai no Sanka“).

On October 2, 2023 the band received an official video from Ed Morales (the President and Chairman of the Board for the 2025 Pasadena Tournament of Roses) to invite the band to the Rose Parade 2025 (video below by MICHINOKUGORO). The band has also received official letter of participation, click here of the note at the Band Official Instagram (in Japanese).

  1. The GREATEST almost all girl band in the world. Their energy is amazing. They bring happiness everywhere they perform. They practice over 40 hours a week with only a six week break and some of the students stay in school to get better at performing.

    • Sooo excited that I will get to see the BEST high school band in the world, the Tachibana High School Marching Band in person on three separate occasions during their upcoming visit to California.

      1-Disneyland in December 2024
2-Band Fest 2024 at Pasadena City College
      3-2025 Rose Parade in Pasadena

My family, my daughter’s high school band mates and parents are soooooo EXCITED and blessed to see this AMAZING band and all of it’s INCREDIBLE members in person.

  3. I am a 78 year old man and totally addicted to KT. I wish to see them perform live in California, but a few things may prevent it from happening, First I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Gait and rely heavily on a wheeled walker althogh

    • I can relate… I too am addicted for the last 3 years and have downloaded over 100 of their parades and concerts…..will be 70 with heart disease…but nothing will stop me from seeing them in Pasadena…..may I suggest either watching from the starting or ending point of the parade.

      • You are as brave and dedicated as Kurara.

Wheel chair accommodations are much better at Bandfest than at the parade. Parade seating is in grandstands which would be very difficult for you. Likewise, arriving the night before and camping out for curbside seating would also be a challenge.

Bandfest, on the other hand, has very good access. The parking garage has elevators and there is elevator access to the excellent viewing area in the stadium.

Each band gives a field performance and a pass in review. The lineup for the Bandfest sessions will be available as the date approaches.

  4. Rob B and I attended the Toho Marching Band concert. Rob obtained really good main floor center section seats. The Japanese Consul General was sitting just a few seats away from us. After the concert, I had an opportunity to speak to the Consul General for a few seconds. I suggested making the marching bands part of the Japanese Diplomatic Corps; they bring so much goodwill toward Japan. He said, “We are well aware of the bands.”

  5. I noticed Costa Rica had someone live stream the entire parade this year, from assembly in the early morning through marching the entire parade within the ranks of the band. When the official broadcast filmed the band this got spliced into the live stream. Now that would be something for all the KT fans back home in Kyoto, in Taiwan and elsewhere that can’t make it to RP25.

  6. Why don’t we try predict what they are going to play in the parade. Especially which songs will replace Fireball and Happy. Let me guess, Uptown funk, The Greatest Show could be possible candidates as they have played them on the stage.

    • Since they seem to open their parades with Down by the Riverside even to this day…I wish they would keep Fireball and Happy, brought the crowd to their feet back in 2018.

    • My first prediction is that this year’s parade medley will be in the Rose Parade, just like 2016 Disney Medley was in the RP 2018. It sounds like it’s tuned for RP audience, already. The medley may have a bigger role in RP2025 than 2018 (where it was played only twice) and parts of it may be extended or extracted into separate songs.

I’m guessing Uptown Funk as well, at this time, and preferrably the 117th’s strong adaptation from their only parade. Celebration would be nice, but turning it into a parade number would require some fine-tuning, as a long sax solo would be quite difficult in a parade 😀

I’d definitely root for Fireball to re-emerge, as probably everyone.

I’m actually not sure about Sing3; the current version is not parade-optimal in the same way it was deliberately built into in the years leading to RP 2018. It would take some work and re-arrangement, and the 2018 experience of it is very hard to beat.

  7. So I plan on seeing KT in 2025 and attending all events, ( wonder if they will be also performing at Disney ?). Will be saving for expensive camera gear but oh boy it would be nice to travel the entire parade route, after all KT is the only reason for me to attend Pasadena. It would be nice to meet up with other people attending.

    • The GBA’s package performance includes a Disneyland parade performance together with the Green band festival concert, Pasadena Bandfest and the Rose Parade itself they might be also include a Bandcare performance(?)(since they’ve been in one last 2017)

So yes they will be performing in Disneyland

      • Thank you for the information, too bad they don’t have a package for KT fans for the entire venue. Hope to see meet other fans there.

  9. I have a Great idea!!! for Rose Parade 2025.

It would be awesome if somehow, someone could arrange a special section of the parade route for “The Fans of KT”

I’m not sure if the local sponsors, who provide their homes for KT, already have a special section on the parade route.

But us fans who live across the United States and plan to attend, I’m sure would love to join in on a special welcome section.

This idea would be “Great” especially, if KT could stop and perform “Sing Sing Sing” for their American fans.

(Hopefully a special section, free of charge) I understand tickets to the parade can be very expensive.

I wonder if anyone in the KT organization reads our post?
Maybe they could help arrange this idea.

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

I’ve been a youtube fan since March 2018, 3 months after their last Rose Parade. At the time I had no knowledge of the exsistane of this wonderful band.

I guess their trips to Hawaii are now a thing of the past?
When was their last trip to Hawaii?

I plan to go to Japan sometime early 2024 just to see KT, after all, 23 months from now is just to long of a wait. I’m 70 years old.

    • Randy:
Great idea, but may be difficult to implement. There will be literally millions of people there, difficult parking, etc. We would have to find each other and then stake out a spot along the parade route. People seeking a good, free location generally get there the day before, camp out overnight to be in position when the parade starts. I have done it twice, many years ago. It was an adventure.

Also, we would only get to see the band for a few minutes while it marches past. Hopefully dancing and playing at that moment.

We could do it, but I would also suggest we meet for Bandfest and the concert, and there will probably be one.

Bandfest occurs a day or two prior to the parade at the Pasadena City College football stadium. There, we will be able to enjoy KT’s performance for about twenty minutes. We will also be able to see several other outstanding bands. There are three sessions. You can go to just the one KT will be at or all three. Tickets have been about $20 each session and parking is convenient and free. Snacks and restrooms are available.

We could all wear something to identify ourselves, maybe an orange ribbon, and then find seats together.

The Japanese band is scheduled for one of the two afternoon sessions, which end about 4:30 pm. We could then go for dinner afterward, which wold be nice.

Details and tickets will be available on the Tournament of Roses web site.

The concert will probably be a day or two later, we will have to wait for the announcement details. Hopefully someone will get the info and post it on the blog.

Apologies for the long post and for not responding sooner. I have been having computer and internet problems.

      • Nice idea Howard and thanks for the insight. If I can I’d certainly like to go. It will likely be difficult as I’m on the other side of the country, but there’s a possibility things might work out really well; I have a high school son who may want to go to Pomona, which is pretty close. The orange ribbon’s a terrific idea.

It might also be a good idea to contact the organizers of bandfest, for various reasons which I would only mention privately.

      • I have already bought my Rose Parade and Bandfest tickets. I am predicting KTB will be playing on Bandfest#3 session, 2 pm 30th December.
I suggest KTB fans to wear some Orange oufits, especially caps, to show our support and love. Very few during 2018 RP and Bandfest.

    • Harvey O. here… I think it would be a good move for KT to add. The LITTLE OLD LADY FROM PASADENA to their playlist for the parade. Its a lively little tune and the song takes place on the parade route.

    • Randall – you won’t need to wait 23 months – KT will be in Pasadena 12 months from now!

It may be that there are people with connections to KT who read this website, but we should have no expectations that anyone actively involved with the band will see it or that they would act on any suggestions made here.

Topics such as which songs we would like to see them play can probably be categorised as fan fantasy – and it’s fine to fantasise as long as we are not too disappointed if we don’t get our wishes!

Howard and Sam – I think you should wear the orange ribbons in your hair, so that we can look out for you in the videos!

  10. I have been going to Bandfest every year since the mid-70’s. I have seen some really great bands. But, I have never seen an audience react so enthusiastically as they did for KT at the 2018 Bandfest. THREE standing ovations! The band was great in 2012 and amazing in 2018. I can hardly wait for the 2025 Bandfest!

      • Manny,

For the fist session, I will try to get in line about 11:00. I will bring a sack lunch to enjoy while waiting. For the second day, morning session, I will get there about an hour early. The morning session is generally not as crowded as the afternoon sessions. When the morning session ends, I will grab my sack lunch from the car and immediately get in line for the afternoon session.

Also, today, Wednesday, 12/29 the weather has been cool and sunny. Rain is forecast, but in sunny California it might not happen. I recommend a warm coat, a hat to shade your eyes from the afternoon sun, and an umbrella, just in case.

Snacks, at reasonable prices, will be available in the stadium. In the past In-And-Out Burger has had a lunch truck the second day. They serve their regular menu at their regular prices. They are well organized and move people through the line very quickly. There are also fast food restaurants across the street, but it would probably be better to get in line for the afternoon session.

Look for me in my tan Stetson cowboy hat with a small KT banner on the front. I will be at all three sessions.

This is going to be a great Bandfest. I can hardly wait.

  11. I hope to see my two favorite marching bands, Kyoto Tachibana High School (The Most Entertaining Brass Band of the World) and The Ohio State University (The Best Damn Band In The Land) in the parade. But that will depend on the fortunes of the Ohio State football team in 2024.

How many foreign bands have been invited back to RP a third time? Have anyone studied the parades history?

    • Speaking of a third … 3rd … time appearing in the Rose Parade, I wish bands like Waseda Setsuryo and the Violet Impulse band would be invited for a FIRST time. Maybe someday.

I sold my soul to Orange Devils years ago, so i will be flying over the highest mountains and deepest sees just to be there. Hello America and Pasadena, Irishman is coming.

Pa. Alan and MartinC, have you checked your emails? It’s been few days. Spam folder maybe?
