This new BD/DVD features the Stage Show part of the 55th Regular Concert (December 2018, 115th Class) and 56th Regular Concert (December 2019, 116th Class) with Drum Major comments. The name of the disc (“Magic x Bloom”) is derived from the motto of the band on those years (“Make Magic” in 2018 and “Wish in Bloom” in 2019). Announcement at the Band Official Site is here (in Japanese).

The BD/DVD is available for shipping at PalsMusicShop on July 29, 2020. Bluray is here and DVD here. The discs are region-free and in NTSC-format.

All discs of Tachibana can be found here.

PalsMusicShop does have English pages (they are here) but the discs of Tachibana are not included into that selection. 1. Personal thoughts about Stage Selection II “Magic & Bloom” DVD.
If nothing else, it’s great to see and hear properly filmed and recorded performances. But there is a great deal more.
The DVD contains interviews with 115th DM Okazel and 116th DM Palinpu. A full English translation is provided on a separate document included in the pack.
(We also discover the origin of Palinpu’s- or is it Pur-rimp’s?- nickname.)
The interviews, spoken naturally and without script, are revealing, moving and inspiring. One thing that indirectly emerges is that the two DMs became remarkable leaders.
Okazel talks of the challenge of experiencing a change in Director/Advisor.
Palinpu says the 2019 visits to Kyushu schools were seminal in reworking the band’s sound.
We read that the band wants not just to make audiences happy, it seeks to move them. It is that appeal to deeper emotions than just drill and precision that makes KT very special.
We see pre-performance scenes and hear a DM speech together with the longest Hi scream I’ve yet heard, proving that KT members have unrivalled lung capacity!
The 2018 stage performance is as good as expected and Sing3 is perfect. For me, the playing in 2019 achieves even greater harmony and is warmer overall; the sound has evolved. However, I’m not so keen on the slightly cut-down version of the 2019 Sing3. Only Sing*3 and Winter Games are common to both performances and some of the other pieces are new to me. “We Go Together” is one of them and is particularly charming.
We are used to good solos, but the sax solo in “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” is so good it’s actually tears that it brings to the eyes.
The concert ‘orchestral’ performances are a true gift. We get to hear how well Okazel plays the clarinet. All the performances are excellent and we can appreciate Kaneshiro-sensei’s excellent conducting skills. Over the two years, we hear the band achieving a rare level of sensitivity. The more demanding piece, Bert Appermont’s Brussels Requiem, is played as if the players understand perfectly its meaning. In my opinion it is interpreted with deeper feeling than any “adult” version I’ve heard. The bonus ends with a wonderfully uplifting “It Don’t Mean A Thing” performed by an evidently happy band.
Acquiring the DVD was simple and fast; a write-up of the steps involved is on the News/Ordering DVD page. €60 (postage included) is a lot of money for a DVD. Worth it? For me, absolutely.

    • Alan-san, for 2020 regular concert live streaming they showed everything including third year students send offs after sing sing sing. Was this send off presents in the DVD/Blu-Ray of the 2018 and 2019 class or was it cut out? Thanks.

      • Justafan- No such send-off is shown at the end of either the sing3 performances. Whether that is because they were cut or whether they didn’t actually occur, I don’t know.

        • Alan-san, arigatou. If it was cut off then that is very unfortunate, if not then let’s hope there is a copy somewhere. Watching the third year send off was so emotional I cries. I wish I can see my favorite class 115, 116 send offs as well. Prays.

    • Hello Alan,
Do you think it’s possible, or legal, to put the translation of these DM interviews somewhere here on this site, with the OK of orangedevilsfan, of course.

    • Hello Alan,
Like so many, I am totally mesmerized by Kyoto Tachibana HS band. ..and invested in watching the wonderful performance on Christmas Eve 2020. The one disappointment was the muting of the music for the “ Colour Guard” performance. If / when a DVD becomes available then would the sound be reinstated?
Also I really loved “Diga Diga Do”, was this new for this performance? I don’t recall hearing it before.
Overall the performance was stunning..really loved every part.
Many thanks from me to you all

      • Ken- The 2018-19 concerts were published last summer, so we may have to wait quite a while for Pals to publish the 2020 Regular Concert. Hopefully they will have paid the rights for the CG song but… maybe not. I haven’t heard the band play Diga Diga Doo previously either. I too loved the Christmas Eve performance but on re-viewing it, find myself avoiding the final part including the club president’s speech. Too painful! Although forever, well for me at least, the speech will stand as a testament of how she and her classmates fought so bravely through a terrible year, to train and lead the band to ultimately produce such wonderful performances.

  2. Received my DVD 2 days ago. Some snippets to share :
    1. English translation sheets of DMs interviews provided good insights on preparation for the concerts.
    2. Chippi was assisting back stage for Make A Magic. She appeared for a couple of seconds to pass something to the percussion team.
    3. The tachibana ponytail tie has intricate knobs and neeed another member to tie for them. It’s not a ready made hair tie to slip on with an elastic band. Orange Devils don’t take shortcuts 👏👍
    4. Tachibanasaur appeared with DM mace during Rock and Roll All Nite song in Wish In Bloom meaning 116th DM danced as part of the colour guard 👏👏

  3. What is the cost? I tried to price the DVD available prior and with shipping it would have been a small fortune, so I passed.

    • I recently bought the kasnsai marching competition and the stage selection 2015-2017 for a total of 130€ (include 20€ of shipping to France). It’s cool to have new performance from them but I think it’s a little too much for a student like me. And also it was a little disappointing because they cut the show by showing a song and not the one after(I don’t know how to say it, in french it’s 1 sur). I wish I had waited, I really love class 115 (because they are the same age as me 😁) and now I will have to pay for the shipping again and I think for this DVD the total would be ~70€ I hope this help
