Band launches Official Website

Note that this website has been defunct since December 2020. Information about the new Band Official Website can be found here.

It has been asked many times and now it is finally here: the band Official Website! Written of course in Japanese the most interesting sections are the Annual Plan which details their event schedule, Video-section and Diary-section (click here) where the members express their feelings after training sessions and events.

For all Tachibana-fans this is a website to be bookmarked and visited often!

  1. Several years ago I wrote a college paper on this wonderful marching band. Though it had mixed reviews, my instructor, a music director, loved it. I became a loyal K-T fan ever since and would watch their videos in my spare time. I so much wanted to travel to Pasadena and watch them perform live at the Rose Bowl Parade, but alas no funds. Now that I have the funds t travel and watch them live in Japan, the Pandemic strikes. Guess I will settle for past videos. I just cannot help but wonder what the 114th graduating class are doing now.

  2. I have a question regarding a past student of K-T name Hitomi Kanamaru. Because there is a posted video of the K-T performance entitled “SING! SING! SING!” 2007-2015, there are several persons that think that she is in this video. However, I do not believe that she is. Is there anyone that knows for sure? Because 2015 was their time that K-T won the Gold since being away from it since 2009. Thank you.

    • Alvin- she is not. It is relatively more difficult for first years to participate in contests, where the rules limit the number of band members. She did, however, participate in the following two years’ contests.
May I suggest, by the way, that such questions are more likely to be read on the blog’s Fan Corner than here?

  4. I love watching the KT Marching Band perform. However, I have always been curious about the way you have the member arranged, perhaps I am used to the way they do it in the U.S. Most marching bands have the flutes and clarinets at the front, the sousaphones and percussions near the back and then fill in with the brass players.

But KT does it differently. The flutes and clarinets are at the rear, the sousaphones and percussions in the middle and then the brass section in front and behind the percussions. Is there a reason for this setup? Just curious. Thank you.

    • Alvin- a bit of a late reply, this. Why has KT chosen this parade configuration? No idea, but from the videos available, it’s been their parade formation since 2012. Before then, in most of 2011 and in 2007 we see clarinets immediately preceding percussion but the flutes close the parade. In 2004 and 1993, sousas closed after the clarinets and flutes. However, brass has always led.
Other bands choose different parade configurations; for example Izumo Business, sometimes called KT’s “sister” band, lead with clarinets and close with flutes (even oboe!)
For me, KT’s configuration isn’t much of a surprise; the British ones I know best usually lead with brass and close with woodwind.

  5. I want to say Thank You. I have been looking for something wonderful ever since this Pandemic started to keep me occupied. I came across your videos on You-Tube by accident, and they were amazing. Then, there was several special ones, with a special individual who became my inspiration.

This young, though she is not there anymore, was born with one leg, played the flute, and wore a prosthetic left leg. I thought to myself, if she can play, march, and do dance numbers like that, with no problems, and does not complain. But shows nothing but enthusiasm, energy, and fun. If she can do all that, Then I can quit smoking!

She became my inspiration to quit a nasty habit that I have had for years. If were not for me discovering this wonderful Band and that young lady, I would still be smoking. So,Thank you for the wonderful pleasure and the fantastic inspiration. I hope that she is still inspiring others.

  6. Looking at the horns’ shadows when they were doing only leg movements, I’m really fascinated how rock steady they were. Is this due to their superb training and physique?

  7. Paul: Where do I find this new webpage? I’ve been out of the loop lately and keep reading about it. I would like to check in now that I have lots of time while living this “hermit” life. Thanks.

  8. I came upon your marvelous band by accident. Could you please consider an English version of the website?
How do students get chosen for the band? Audition? It must take hours and hours to practice all those formations plus memorizing all that music. I really would like to know more about your school and the band.
    Respectfully.

    • Barbara, welcome to the KT fan site. Unfortunately, KT staff do not interact with us here on such a level. As seasoned KT guru Paul Miller-san has noted in his response back here, and especially here about admiring from afar, that’s as much as we can do as fans of this wonderfully talented band.
Check out the interviews section, and browse through the comments on the various pages such as the “background info” page. Many comments do get repeated but every so often someone will stumble upon a new or re-upload of a video. I’m finding lots of “new” uploads of 4K high-definition footage. I’m thinking of setting up a community pasteboard/whiteboard where content can be shared easily, still in the setting up phase though.

I myself only discovered KT since February 2020 after clicking a recommendation and was equally as mesmerised and it was a “rabbit hole” I don’t regret jumping into.

As many here would attest, the only cure for a KT addiction is to continue to watch more KT.

      • Meant to say that repeated comments are actually comments that repost a video that someone had already found previously, but the wordpress comments section is horribly inadequate, especially with the fan page already with over 14.3k posts already – have fun reading through them, worth doing in self-iso.

  11. orangedevilsfan, looks to me like they took some format ideas from this site 🙂
Nonetheless, good to see them acknowledging their fans with their new site. Is this a first for Japanese High School Band? Heck, is this a first for any Japanese school/college/university band?

I am sad, not just personally but also for the KT members, that this is likely to be a year with hardly any public performances as the likelihood of a quick return to normalcy does not appear significant in light of the recent flare up of CV cases in Japan recently.

If anyone from KT reads this, stay safe and stay healthy all of you. Your fans from around the world keep you in our hearts and prayers.
