Tanaka-sensei announces retirement

Confirming the rumours that have been circulating for a while Tanaka-sensei has announced today at his facebook (note not available anymore) that after 23 years as Tachibana Band Director and Wind Club Advisor he plans now to go to retirement from March 31, 2018.

During his tenure the band has risen to national success and international fame culminating into their second performance at Rose Parade New Year’s Day 2018 and he has earned enduring place in the hearts of fans of Tachibana and Japanese brass bands. His kindness and passion will surely be missed but we hope to see him still many times at future Rose Parades in the next decades to come!

Best way to get any farewell messages to him would be via his facebook here.

  1. Mr. Tanaka resigned. He did not ‘retire.’ Your own post indicates he’s working full time at another school. There was no gold watch… no retirement party. He left… which begs the question.

  2. I agree with my fellow person fhe Netherlands. Before may I did not know Kyoto Tachibana. Accidentally I saw a video on YouTube. Now I can’t stop watching their videos. Never saw such impressive performances and marches. Mr Tanaka did a great job. Thanks for that.

  3. I found this comment on the old Dr. Tanaka- Face Book Account: With the help of a teacher, and a car, they drove back to Kyoto to pick-up his files, on March 31, 2018. When they arrived, Quote: ” When we go to the music room, the last meeting and the heard of the music room, all of them (band members?) are wearing uniforms (playing?) “”down by the riverside,””” I wanted to be the wind, and I played it for myself. It was a luxury experience.” Of course this was a translation from Japanese to English.

  4. I’m very sorry for Mr. Tanaka’s retirement from the bottom of my heart.
Without his devoted support, the success of Kyoto Tachibana today was impossible.
He tried to tell students not only musical emotion but also integrity and the importance of contribution to society.
I wish him good health and a safe life in future.
