To keep things interesting Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association has announced a new video contest to the bands playing at the 129th Tournament of Roses Parade (see more of the visit here) just after the last contest finished in Kyoto Tachibana victory (see announcement of the previous contest here, and the results here).
This time it appears that the video content is the same for all, and each band will provide their own accompanying sound track to the 40-second clip. Kyoto Tachibana has chosen to go Star Wars, their clip starts with Star Wars “Main Theme” followed by “Cantina Theme”. This has been regular part of the band 2017 field and stage shows and it is a pity contest video does not contain the very well done and funny coreography band has created for the piece but we can see it here (video above by I LOVE BRASS; starts at 10:40):
All contest videos can be seen at the website of Pasadena Tournament of Roses (defunct) where public voting also takes place, starting October 11, 2017 and ending October 31, 2017, and as before you are encouraged to vote again and again every two hours… The winning band will get prize money against their travelling cost to Tournament of Roses Parade.
Keep the wins coming Tachibana!
Update December 12, 2017:
For whatever reason info on this contest has now completely disappeared from the website of Pasadena Tournament of Roses and I have not seen any declaration of the winner at their Twitter-account either. Anyway, Tachibana collected about 10’000 votes this time, more than the other bands put together, so it was a landslide victory for Orange Devils again. As per the comment on the Green Band Association promotional video (see it here) the band intends to donate the prize money this time to the California Wildfire Relief Fund.
So, congratulations again Kyoto Tachibana!

Other bands are technically superior but they tend to be mechanical and sooooo boring. But the mere mention of Kyoto Tachibana makes us jump with joy, energy and fun! Our girls (and a few boys) have one thing other bands lack. Know what it is? It’s charm,beybeh…..CHAHHMM

I think the greatest achievement of Tachibana is that they have brought the Japanese concept of “kawaii” to the marching band world.
