Cheering at 95th All-Japan High School Soccer Tournament:
The very last event of the year was to cheer school soccer team in first round match in the 95th All-Japan High School Soccer Tournament against the formidable multiple National Champion Ichiritsu Funabashi High School at Fukuda Denshi Arena on December 31, 2016 (video by dai12). Unfortunately Kyoto Tachibana lost the match 0-1 but it surely was not due to lack of cheering quality! Notice the bright red jackets band uses when it goes cheering.

Band 53rd Regular Concert was held on December 23, 24 and 25, 2016 at 1.30pm each day at School Festival Hall (photo by Hiroyuki Tanaka facebook). The event was fully-booked with the audience of 900 each day, which is pretty remarkable achievement. Three concert days is clearly not enough!
Rather dramatic eyewitness account (in Japanese) can be found here, and another one here. More pictures from Tanaka-sensei’s facebook are here. Notes and picture by Orange Fairy are here.

Band cheering school soccer team at 95th All-Japan High School Soccer Tournament, Preliminary Round against Kyoto Sangyo on November 23, 2016 at Nishikyōgoku Stadium, Kyoto (video by st.taketo). Cheering worked, Tachibana soccer team won 1-0!
Parade at Garasha (Gracia) Festival:
Gruelling 1+ hour parade at Garasha (Gracia) Festival in Nagaokakyō on November 13, 2016 (video by st.taketo). Likely the longest parade since Tournament of Roses Parade 2012 (see more here) brought out large support staff and we saw band being supplied with water like in any long-distance sports event. Long (2.7 km) and crowded parade route proved tough on security forces too.
Parade at 35th Shuten-dōji Festival:
To conclude busy week the band parades at 35th Ōeyama Shuten-dōji Festival on October 30, 2016 (video by 慶次郎前田). By request of organizers the orange uniforms were used in this event for the first time – the famous Red Demon of Mount Ōe met Orange Devils finally!
Field show of the same event (video by st.taketo):
Parade at Art Festa, Kyoto Yamashina ward:
Band parades as opening act at Art Festa to celebrate 40th anniversary of Kyoto Yamashina ward on October 29, 2016 (video by 慶次郎前田). Sun is setting while the band marches which provides dramatic light to this event (parade starts 5 pm and sun sets 6 minutes later).

And here is a longer version of the same event by st.taketo:
44th Kansai Marching Contest:
Band was playing at the 44th Kansai Marching Contest (=Qualification for the 29th All-Japan Marching Contest) on September 22, 2016 at Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium (nowadays known as Asue Arena Osaka). They won Gold, but unfortunately did not proceeded to the National Finals this year.

29th Kyoto Prefecture Marching Contest:
Band participated in the 29th Kyoto Marching Contest (=Qualification for the 29th All-Japan Marching Contest) on September 11, 2016 at Taiyogaoka Gymnasium (video by おーじろー2). Band begins with the first movement “Catalonia” from “Cats Tales” by British brass band composer Peter Graham, and continues with “Merry-Go-Round” by Philip Sparke. Then saxophone sextet plays “Amapola” by Joseph Lacalle, and we have traditional finish with a combination of “Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)” made famous by Benny Goodman and “Swing, swing, swing” from the movie “1941” by John Williams. The advanced version of Waterfall Run at 6:09 was impressive and judges liked it too as band won Gold and advanced to the 44th Kansai Marching Contest!
Some pictures of the Tachibana performance are here.
Full result list is here, in Japanese.
Clever video of the same, combining three views to the performance (video by 丹羽豊):
School festival “Tachibanasai”:
(same video in bilibili is here)
School festival “Tachibanasai” at the Courtyard Stage on September 10, 2016 where band 3rd years’ traditionally play at an outdoor concert (video above by 慶次郎前田). Highlight this time was the Tachibanasai-song (originally “Vacation” by Connie Francis) with vocalist who did great despite equipment problems. The freewheeling atmosphere of this event is always superb, especially taking into account it typically is held just before the band main event of the year, All-Japan Marching Contest Qualifications in Kyoto.
The MC of the event was also having fun (video below by 20120909singsingsing). Translation of her (not so relevant) speech to English by Tetsuya T -san is here.
In addition the band played also in the School Festival Hall (video below by 慶次郎前田). Another video of the same is here.
Band visit to Kaua’i, Hawai’i:

Band visits Kaua’i, Hawai’i 7th time since 1998 and thanks to 071 ranpei we actually have plenty of video material of this overseas visit (all videos are from his YouTube-channel). The band won Gold but unfortunately did not proceed further in the competition. Full result list is here or here, in Japanese.

Parade nearby Nishikyōgoku Stadium, Kyoto:
Parade nearby Nishikyōgoku Stadium, Kyoto to support Kyoto Sanga F.C. (=J2 League pro soccer club) against Matsumoto Yamaga FC on June 26, 2016 (video by 慶次郎前田). Use of Sanga T-shirts and rain gear makes this rather unusually looking parade. Lots of soccer fans around and crowd control is having a very busy day. At the end of the parade (at 17:20 in the video) the band played Kyoto Sanga F.C. anthem song “Reflections In A Palace Lake” by The Ventures (song is better known in Japan as “Kyōto bojō“).
During halftime show band was threatened by wet conditions and dangerously bouncing balls at 2:10 and 4:20… (video by 慶次郎前田):

Nice find! The band managed a huge turnout, which must have helped winning the award.
“Paprika”‘s channel actually includes several videos of the same event, each of a longer duration, such as: https://youtu.be/xpg2HIfhmAo?si=DviNO8zB3PP5UQD9
All we now need is to find videos of the band supporting the team on the following two days (6th and 7th Jan).

I was watching the 2016 Kyoto Marching Contest, with Piimo receiving the band’s trophy at the end. And I noticed a guy was up there with Piimo to receive the award. So who is it that accompanies the DM? At first, I thought maybe he was the assistant DM, but then I remembered it would’ve been Ron if that was the case, since she would be the next DM. Is it the Wind Club President? A member picked at random? The year before, a girl was there with Cony when they won the Gold. I think that may be the only time I’ve seen a guy there with the DM.

Oh, I don’t think I’ve seen those. I think that was Negibi who was with the DM, receiving the trophy for the 2014 contest. Which award did they receive that year? I just know it wasn’t the Gold. It looks like the guy with Okazel was one of the three male trumpet players from the 115th. So was KT one of the bands that advanced to the next competition when Okazel and the guy stepped forward? That’s what I was guessing.

I don’t know this for sure, but I think it is always a member of the Marching Composition Team that receives the trophy together with the DM. At least I don’t know of any year where that has not been the case. In the 2016 it was “Shin-chan” (sousaphone).

For map nerds, interested in the unusual route followed by the 2016 Sakura Parade. This video [https://youtu.be/sGHN2dLFAxk] starts with a helpful map. The parade began south of the Reisen-dori at the Heian-Jingu Shrine Outen-mon Gate shown here: https://goo.gl/maps/qsq47ueScYkQuEWJA . Following the Jingu-michi path, it crosses Nijo dori and continues on the road south, past the Museum of Art on the left. Google Maps shows major reconstruction work since being undertaken there. The band proceeds under Otorii Gate and immediately turns left. The Keijiro Maeda video [https://youtu.be/KxDxWkMbjJQ] at around 5:27 indicates that they half-ran eastwards across the southern end of the museum, turning left northwards on the path alongside Okazaki dori. The cameramen then pick them up from when they turn left, westwards on Nijo dori. They continue until the car park where they loop right around the entrance and stop as shown at the end of the
Shirasagi’s video [https://youtu.be/kxQ7sR94JK8].
