The two who are not in uniform are Omu-chan on trombone and Jin on saxophone. (Men) Both are members of 110Th. They were unsuccessful in auditioning for contest members.

Thanks for posting these great videos. I see some familiar faces among the 110th graduates. Looks like at least one of the graduates may have been overcome by her emotions.
I wonder what Yuina was doing there. She’d already graduated from Maser Haus earlier that year and was playing in her band Aporon in the Tokyo area.

For the regular concerts through 2018, alumni and alumnae of the brass band who have graduated will come as staff to help organize the concerts.
The number of people is around 30. They operate the lighting lights and sound, prepare bouquets for the graduates, and direct the audience. They also set up the stage.

Really….never heard about that. I imagine Yuina as being a preparing bouquet kind of lady. 😁

Thanks for posting these, OF. I never knew alumni did that. Wow, so some even handled the sound board…..I wonder where they learned to do that. That takes some skill, I would think.
I remember Ieharu, she appeared on some TV feature on KT (I think a link to it is here at the blog). As I recall, she was also in the sax group J Easter Jango with four other 111th OGs (featured here in the “Other Alumni Activities” section). They played a couple of gigs. I see Kurara and Ramirin lent a hand to the concerts as well.

A correction is needed in the song library. “Misty” should be replaced with “Stardust” – Hoagie Carmichael.
“Notte Stellata” was played in the 2018 contest.

2013 is actually rather peculiar year as the band had then two teams performing, one competitive team and one “free” team, with almost completely different programs

I realize that. I had just checked both of the vids in my files and realized that I had misidentified the quintet piece originally. Mea culpa.

Could you perhaps make two separate entries for the Song Library: “Marching Contest Program (competition)” and “Marching Contest Program (free)”?

I came across this second video of the Kyoto Prefecture Marching Contest compulsory program of September 8th, this one taken from the left front side of the band. Quality isn’t quite as good but it’s alright. A much smaller percussion section, I could make out Vanilla Misaki-san and Mentapu on snare drums and the sole male Negibi on bass drum again. It also gives another view of the two French horn players who fell during the “running squares” part of the performance (looking at this video and the one already posted here, it looks like while the first one who fell was running to get back in place, she collided with the second player, who then fell. This second player had actually run around the first player when she fell, and she ended up falling herself when the first player cut in front of her. Fortunately, it looks like neither got hurt). At 3:47 a flute player can be seen losing her shoe as the band played “Sing.” Of course, she ignored it and kept playing. She ended up on the other side of the band formation as they concluded the performance, looks like a clarinet player picked up the shoe as the band ran off the floor.
I assume Vanilla was the lead drummer in the percussion section, as I noticed in the video already posted here, that as the band marches around as they play “The Bandwagon,” Mentapu stopped playing at one point, while Vanilla continued to play. Perhaps that section of the song only needed one snare part. I can’t think of any other reason why Mentapu would stop playing. At the conclusion of “Bandwagon,” Vanilla immediately raced to the back ahead of the other percussionists, to put on the harnessed drum set and start playing the intro to “Sing.”
When the five sax players come forward for their solo section, the tenor player second from the left is the one that can be seen in the Jeaster (Jango) video that’s posted here in the “Alumni/Other Alumni Activities” section. As far as I know, no one knows what her nickname is, she’s just known as being from the 111th class. She returned to KT to play in the 2018 Rose Parade band.

I saw in the video of the All-Japan Marching Contest that two members fell during the “running squares” part of the performance. That was why an alumna once said the parents were against that move, because it was hazardous. It was a challenge that was difficult, and in a previous year they considered it a miracle that they pulled it off.

There was also a video of band practicing this move and it was brutal. Band members were constantly colliding to each other. I’m happy they don’t do it any more.
